Making farms SMART to meet farmer’s needs

Jeevika and its partners work directly with farmers to tackle all the challenges they are facing from lack of technical training to difficulties in accessing markets or obtaining finance for investment.
This comprehensive support for farmers helps deliver sustainable livelihoods mitigating the increasing pressures of climate change and bringing social and economic security to rural communities.
Smart Farm India aims to double the incomes of small farms (<2Ha) and other food producers such as fishing communities and beekeepers.
We put people at the centre of project design and focus on deliverable and sustainable positive outcomes for low-income farmers.

People Smart

Affordable and accessible to farmers, so training and capacity building are fundamental to our model. Solutions must also be cheap enough to invest in and maintain to ultimately be self-sustaining.

Money Smart

It is no good for the farmers if they raise productivity on their farms, if they then face postharvest losses through wastage or they can’t sell their produce for a good market price.

Location Smart

To adapt to the different challenges of different farming areas and the specific barriers facing farmers in that area.

Climate Smart

So farmers can be resilient to climate change through adaptation and mitigation to ensure sustainable futures.

“Smart Farms” integrate affordable new technologies and more traditional rural development, to meet the needs of low-income farmers (primarily women). They also consider the whole supply chain from crop cultivation to marketing and distribution of produce. The principal aims of Smart Farms are to encourage sustainable and climate resilient agricultural methods, empower farmers through knowledge and skills, and double farmer income.

What is “Smart Farming”?

Smart Farming is the application of digital information systems and other agriculture related technologies designed to make farming both sustainable and highly productive - our aim is to make these opportunities accessible to the most impoverished farmers.

Why Small Farmers?

In India, farming accounts for 16% of GDP and is the biggest employer in the country. Given this, small farmers are the key to addressing the rural poverty challenge.
