Spread across 3 tribal villages in a remote area of Daspalla in Odisha, this project was funded by the Waterloo Foundation and focused on providing sustainable water solutions to village communities facing seasonal water scarcity. This has involved providing piped spring water over a 1km distance, reducing time women spent collecting water and providing safe drinking and irrigation water. Over 100 household taps have been installed, leading to the creation of kitchen gardens and improved community nutrition. It has also allowed women to develop fishing farming in water catchment ponds creating supplementary income and to diversify crop production. Water storage tanks were also provided for each village supporting water provision for health and hygiene initiatives and to enable farmers to grow a wider range of crops. Alongside this project, villagers were supported to obtain government support for provision and maintenance of existing water and sanitation provision.
