About Jeevika Trust & what we are raising money for:
Being poor, powerless and illiterate is a global problem… but it is India that remains the world’s 'biggest poverty trap’. Over 370 million people in village India are trapped below the official 'poverty line', with precarious access to water, food, health-care and opportunity.
Jeevika Trust works to address these issues directly - creating Resources, Opportunities, and Choices, for people on the margins of rural society – particularly disadvantaged women.
Our livelihood projects are focused on women - such as Mint-farming in Uttar Pradesh, or Bee-keeping and tailoring in Uttaranchal, and have given women a chance to enhance the income of their families.
We are now raising money for Project Capricorn - a Goat-rearing scheme near Agra in Uttar Pradesh, that is providing women each with a goat 'on credit' - to be repaid by giving back their first female kid to another family!... The idea is to give families hope and opportunity for their futures... Goats are the 'poor man's cow' - great for nutritious milk and meat; manure helps their veggies grow and money can help their children achieve an education. The project is self-sustaining and, with appropriate training, the women can quickly start to take control of it and expand it.
So...Please help us help them... Sponsor us to 'Give a Mum a Goat'!
Many thanks for your support.
