Majula Singh
Manjula Singh's family is from Agra on the border of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in north India. She had painted for many years before her untimely death early in 2009, and we have great pleasure in offering some of her highly distinctive depictions of Indian women engaged in simple daily activities. There is something timeless in the stillness and innocence of their expressions and attitudes.
Elinor Tolley
Elinor Tolley has painted all her life and held numerous exhibitions in Oxford during the 27 years she has worked in the Genetics Unit of the Biochemistry Department. She first went to India in 2007 and was captivated: “I found it a country full of surprises, dazzling light and colours, and, of course, subject for paintings. The emerald green tea plantations of southern India shrouded in mist punctuated by the bright colours of the women's sari still remain a vivid image.” We are very grateful to Elinor for her very generous gift.
