Some handy hints for advertising your event
Publicising your event is key to making it a success and often it is the simplest of campaigns that can have the best results.
Some important rules
- Keep it simple – keep text to a minimum, providing only the basic facts. Why not create a website (or ask a friend) with more information on it and put the link on all of your advertising?
- Be original – you need to make your event stand out from all of the others, be clever and use your imagination.
- Think about your audience – who do you want to reach? Make sure that your advertising is targeted at the audience you want it to reach.
Local media – Writing a press release and sending it to your local paper and radio stations doesn’t have to be difficult and daunting and it can give you great coverage. Keep your information clear and precise but make it catchy – editors will receive many press releases every day, yours must stand out. Think of it from the journalist’s point of view – how are they going to make a story out of your event? Don’t forget to include:
- What the event is
- Who is involved
- Why the event is taking place
- When, where and what time
- Your contact details in case they have any questions
- Information about Jeevika Trust and our website
Posters and leaflets – Keep the information on them simple and ask local businesses to put them up in their window or display leaflets by their checkouts. Don’t forget to ask permission. Handing leaflets in the High Street or putting them through letter boxes is a great way of getting a large number of people to hear about your event.
Personal invitations – Sending these to your friends, family and colleagues is a great way of getting people to come to your event as they feel that you really want them to come. This is also a good way of getting local dignitaries to come but remember to invite them well in advance as their diaries are often booked up months in advance.
