Community fundraising and events

Fundraising in your local community, whether it’s at school, church or just with a group of friends, is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and have fun while making a difference. There are hundreds and hundreds of different ways that you and your local community can help us but hopefully these pages will help you get your fundraising on the road!

Everyone at Jeevika Trust will support you as much as we possibly can while you’re arranging your event – we can help you with publicity, collection tins, leaflets about Jeevika Trust, sponsor forms, ideas for your event, inspiration for those troublesome moments and much, much more. But before you get started here are a few handy hints…

Ideas – Think, with your friends, family and colleagues, about what you’re going to do. What would fit into your local community? What would people come to? What would they enjoy? Are you aiming the event at children? Families? Adults? Do you have a suitable venue? Will your school or church be able to host it? Try and think of something unusual and look around to see what else is happening on the day of your event to avoid competition. Click here to have a look at just a few suggestions from us…
Plan – Plan for every eventuality! Make a detailed timeline plan covering the weeks and months up to your event showing a list of all the jobs that need to be done. This will probably change quite regularly as you go along but try and cover as much as you can at the start so that you don’t miss anything important out. The time scale of your event will depend on the size of your event – if you’re planning a curry night with 10 friends you may only need a few weeks to plan it but if you’re planning a Valentine’s Ball you will need much, much longer!
Friends – Do you have enough people to help make the event and preparations run smoothly? Ask your friends and family to help but if you still don’t have enough, why not put a poster up in your local supermarket asking for help? Once you’ve got your team together, allocate suitable roles so that everyone knows what they’re doing. Don’t forget to keep everyone updated during the planning stages so they all know what’s going on.
Money – You need to be realistic about how much you are going to make from your event so that you don’t go over board with spending. Write a budget and try very hard to stick to it – remember the aim of this is to raise as much money as possible. If you are not confident about making your money back, why not try and get a local business to sponsor the event?
Health and Safety – Health and safety regulations are becoming more and more strict so make sure that your event complies with all regulations, licensing laws and that you are covered by insurance. If you are not sure, then just give us a ring or an email and we can help you make sure that you are covered.
Promotion, promotion, promotion! – The right advertising and promotion for an event can make or break it. There are many different ways to advertise an event but keep it simple, regular and keep plugging the event right up to the last minute. Take a look at our tips to help you get the right type of advertising for your event.
Have fun – While health and safety and making money are important, having fun is the most important! We really do appreciate all the hard work you put into your events and we wouldn’t be able to make the difference we do without your help, so THANK YOU!
