Our partners
We work with carefully selected grassroots NGOs to deliver our projects in rural allowing us to benefit from their deep knowledge of local village communities and their field experience. At the same time, where appropriate, we help them to build their own organisational and project delivery capacity. All of our partner organisations have strong links to the most disadvantaged Scheduled Caste, Tribal and Dalit village communities – women in particular – and are engaged in livelihood projects which assist access to safe water, help for families living with HIV/AIDs, and improvement of household income and, as a result, nutrition, food security, health and hygiene are also improved.

Annai Mary Foundation (AMF)
Location: Madurai, Tamil Nadu
Founded: 1996

Main Focus: Disadvantaged rural women, particularly Dalit and Tribal women.
AMF is located in the Madurai District of Tamil Nadu and since 1996 has worked in 60 villages to benefit disadvantaged rural women, particularly Dalit and Tribal women, through livelihood initiatives. It has strong links to village crèches which provide childcare and enable women to earn a living. It also works with communities to develop livelihood activities, including beekeeping and kitchen gardens supported by vermi-composting activities.
Jeevan Rekha Parishad (JRP)
Location: Bhubaneswar, Orissa
Founded: 1992

No. of villages: 85 villages and 10 urban slums
Main Focus: Delivering a wide range of health, human rights, environmental and village livelihood initiatives to tribal communities.
JRP is based in Bhubaneshwar in Orissa and since 1992 has been committed to benefiting disadvantaged rural women, particularly Tribal women. JRP works with tribal communities in 25 villages in the Chandaka Forest tribal area, over 60 villages in the Chilika Lagoon area and in 10 urban slums. JRP’s work focuses on women for the implementation of livelihood, health, water development and sanitation projects to ensure the greatest possible benefit to these communities.
Mithra Foundation (Mithra)
Location: Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu
Founded: 1999

Main Focus: Villagers living with HIV/AIDS.
Mithra is located in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu and since 1999 has implemented health, income-generation and educational initiatives for some of the most disadvantaged village groups in 80 villages in the Trichy and Cuddalore Districts of Tamil Nadu. Mithra has done pioneering work to identify and meet the needs of villagers living with HIV/AIDs, and provide socio-economic support to them.
Social Change and Development (SCAD)
Location: Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu
Founded: 1985

Number of villages: 450
Main Focus: The most disadvantaged Scheduled Caste and Tribal community groups including more than 48,000 women engaged in Self Help Groups, as well as farmers and youth groups.
SCAD is based in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. Formed in 1985, it works with the most disadvantaged Scheduled Caste and Tribal community groups, particularly women, and other marginalised groups such as the elderly, orphaned children, gypsies, leprosy patients, snake charmers and people with disabilities. It works in over 450 villages in south Tamil Nadu, and provides livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurial skills, primarily to women via Self-Help Groups and livelihood activities, enabling women to save a percentage of their earnings and qualify for bank loans. SCAD manages more than 2,500 Women’s Self-Help Groups, benefiting over 40,000 women. It is also engaged extensively in the development and restoration of traditional water catchment basins or ooranies, which provide direct village access to water for household and agricultural use for up to 12 months of each year. Schumacher Centre, Delhi (SC)
Location: New Delhi and Bhubaneswar, Orissa

Main Focus: Village livelihood, climate change and forest & tribal affairs.
Based in Delhi, SC works across rural India with projects in Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu. SC was set up in 2001 on the initiative of Jeevika Trust, to work for co-operation and a focused approach amongst development agencies in India, in order to deliver maximum help to rural communities across India. Together we aim to build awareness of E.F. Schumacher’s thinking and values in the context of India, especially his understanding of rural poverty, and promote his ideas for rural livelihoods, the role of women, and skills & technologies appropriate to village needs and resources. Women’s Organization for Rural Development (WORD)
Location: Namakkal, Tamil Nadu
Founded: 1991
Director: Mrs Sivakamavalli Muniyandi
Main Focus: Single women, the elderly and children, including those with HIV/AIDS.
WORD works in the Namakkal District of Tamil Nadu in the region of Tiruchirappalli. Working with the most marginalised Dalit women from the Parayar and Arunthathiyar communities to improve community understanding of legal rights and entitlements, hygiene/health and HIV/ AIDS, it also promotes organic farming, literacy, vocational skills training and institutional care for orphan children and the elderly.
